Philosophy
Free from all the compromises of mass production, AC Schnitzer develops tailor-made components with the highest standards of perfection.
“Form follows function” - Engineers and designers consistently arrange the aerodynamic components for MINI according to this principle.
The AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components take up the lines of the respective base vehicle, subtly reinforce them and give the body exciting new contours.
At the same time, however, they also have a real effect: they increase the downforce on the front and/or rear axle and thus provide additional grip.
Only high-quality composite materials are used in the production of our AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components. Because only these materials meet our high quality standards.
Material: Polyurethane (PUR for short or also known as PU in everyday language)
Due to its excellent mechanical properties, the use of PUR (polyurethane) is particularly suitable in areas that require high wear resistance: e.g. in high-quality automobile construction. PUR is easy to form, very dimensionally stable and - compared to other plastics - very light. It can be painted particularly well (possibly several times).
Polyurethane is created by a chemical reaction that takes place immediately before the resulting material is processed. Polyol and isocyanate react to form polyurethane in a mixing head.
PUR gets its positive product properties from being processed as "PUR integral rigid foam", among other things. Thanks to its very good static properties, it is particularly suitable for technically demanding molded parts and self-supporting products. The wall thicknesses of these parts are somewhat thicker, but the ratio between strength and weight is still excellent.
As a rule, the reaction mixture from the mixing head and sprue is filled into a closed aluminum or epoxy resin mold, in which it hardens to form the molded part. The PUR integral rigid foam is particularly impact-resistant, tough and elastic, but flexible and abrasion-resistant.
The aerodynamic components produced in this way are deburred, sanded and - as a special service from AC Schnitzer and to simplify handling for the customer - primed.
Once primed, AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components can be painted in any imaginable color by the paint shop of their choice on site.
Material: ASA (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylic ester)
ASA is a high-tech polymer for outdoor use. This plastic is characterized by its particularly high strength, rigidity and weather resistance. ASA owes these properties to its special ingredient: acrylic ester rubber.
We process ASA as a sheet material, i.e. the parts are milled "from the solid material". This also produces the high-quality, matt-gloss and scratch-resistant black surface that is typical of ASA. The ASA surface does not require any further surface treatment; AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components made of ASA can be installed directly.
Of course, painting is still possible if desired. After the surface of the ASA material has been pre-treated, it can be painted in any color.
Creative design
PUR, ASA or carbon: at AC Schnitzer, all designs come from a real Italian artist: Michele Viandante; he has been the head designer at AC Schnitzer for many years. Of course, his designs are not only beautiful, they also have to prove themselves: for example, many parts are tested in the wind tunnel to see how well they function.
Tests
If the calculations agree with the results, further tests are required. Crash tests with dummies check whether, for example, pedestrian protection is being complied with. Only when all tests have been completed and the reports have been issued do the AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components go on sale worldwide.
Report
The parts report is an official document that allows the use of tuning parts on public roads within the framework of the StVZO in Germany (and some other countries). After the part described in the report has been installed or modified, the vehicle must be presented to an official inspection station. The inspector will verify that the part has been installed correctly and is authentic and will then enter the modification in the vehicle documents. The vehicle's official operating license will therefore remain valid. The parts report is part of the scope of delivery.
